Main Street of an Old Town in Normandy France

Life in the Normandy town of Coutances during the last century. The streets are uncrowded and the people unhurried. As in many Norman towns, the Cathedral dominates the skyline.

The cathedral of Coutances is built in the gothic style of architecture. Construction began in 1210 and was not completed until 1274. During World War 2, the town was severely damaged by the cathedral escaped without significant harm.
