This gallery of old Normandy farmhouses depicts the typical architecture and style of these magnificent, functional buildings. The photographs were all taken in the late 1800s or early 1900s. As you can see, many of the farmhouses are shown in poor condition. Today, many Normandy farmhouses have been restored and are no longer farmhouses. Some have been converted into expensive mansions and villas, while other farmhouses are rented out to tourists.

The farmhouses chosen for illustration on this website are of different types. They were built in different eras and for owners of different social classes. Some are simple rude dwellings, while some farmhouses are really manors or stately chateaus. All of the farmhouses pictured here are located in Normandy, France. It might be more accurate to say, however, that they were located in Normandy. Many are now gone, having fallen victims to neglect or to the fighting during the D-Day invasion of World War 2. Others have been lovingly restored and now are beautiful country homes.
